The BHP Billiton Science Awards recognise the outstanding work done by science teachers in Australia.
The BHP Billiton Science Awards are a partnership between BHP Billiton, the world's largest diversified resources company, CSIRO, Australia's premier scientific research organization and ASTA, the Australian Science Teachers Association.
Nine teacher finalists were selected from around Australia.
National Winner
Jane Wright
Science Coordinator, Loreto College, Adelaide
Jane has provided science education leadership at a school, state and national level for over 25 years. For the last 12 years Jane has been running successful open-ended investigations in her class using the CREST model and has actively shared her experiences with her colleagues at school and across the state.
Jane managed the South Australian Oliphant Awards in the early 1990’s and in the late 90’s she was elected President of ASTA and served at the national level.
It is clear that Jane has a passion for enhancing the teaching profession. For the last decade she has convened the SASTA Professional Development group. Despite these wider state and national responsibilities, Jane is first and foremost a classroom teacher of the highest calibre.
Jane’s experience and networks will enable her to share the insights she will gain at ISEF with a very wide audience of Australian teachers.
